The representative from Volkswagen gave us a tour of the San Fernando Volkswagen Manufacturing Plant. Volkswagen has four plants in Brazil and the one we visited was the first in Brazil and it has been existed since 1959. This particular plant produces approximately 1700 vehicles per day specializing in the Polo, Gol, and Seveiro. Most of the work on the vehicles that "increased risk to employees and was repetitive" is done by robots programmed by computers which was impressive to watch. Some of the robots had their own names because of the work they do or because it was given to them.
During the tour they showed us various innovations suggested by the workers to improve the working environment and efficiency. Also, there was a training room where they train the workers to perform the same function but at a much smaller scale.
They believed that any process should be donein 8 steps “if a process is not explained in 8 steps then don’t explain it at all”. Overall, I was really impressed with Volkswagen and I will consider purchasing one their brands in the future.
